What this show is
The Pilates Diaries is a podcast of first-hand accounts. Teachers, studio owners and passionate enthusiasts open the notes they’ve taken on their own Pilates journey: why they started, why they stayed, and what the method changed.
Pilates has to be experienced to be understood. So rather than explain it, each entry takes a privileged peek into what a guest generously shares of their Pilates diary.
Your host

Bruce Hildebrand
Bruce has taught Pilates since 2000 and still thinks of himself as a practitioner first.
- Trained in the UK from 1999 and qualified with Body Control Pilates. His first classes were a practice-teaching group of eight in Oxfordshire, then hourly-rented space in a local fitness centre, while he worked at a London studio.
- Helped launch a studio in Edinburgh in 2003, then came home to Melbourne the same year.
- Co-owned a Melbourne studio with a physiotherapist for ten years, then ran three studios across Richmond, Prahran and Carlton with a team of around twenty, before stepping back in 2019.
- Strength and conditioning consultant to the Australian Ballet School, 2005–2011.
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement, 1997. Australia’s pioneer Franklin Method educator, 2004.
- Today he runs Balance & Control Pilates Studio in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, trains new teachers, sits on the Pilates Association Australia committee, and is involved with Trimio.
He started The Pilates Diaries in 2021 because twenty years of teaching had convinced him of one thing: the method is easy to describe and almost impossible to explain. The people who’ve lived it explain it better.
